Winsted, CT-041914MK31 Tim Mcgrane and Lydia Micca look look at items on silent auction during the Pleasant Valley Drive-in fund raiser at Crystal Peak in Winsted on Saturday evening. Donna McGrane said that over 200 tickets had been sold for the event. The theater needs to raise up to $100,000 in order to open for the 68th consecutive season. More than 60 items were auctioned to raise funds to secure a new digital projector. Last year, the McGranes participated in a contest sponsored by Honda that gave away nine digital movie projectors around the country to save drive-ins that might otherwise have closed. Many drive-ins faced the prospect of closing because movie distributors shifted from 35-mm film to an all-digital format at the end of last year. The digital projectors cost about $80,000 and many drive-ins cannot afford the cost. Michael Kabelka / Republican-American
