Britney Bennett, a senior at Wilby High School, accepts an award of appreciation from the National Congress of Black Women for her academic excellence and volunteerism on Sunday during the congress' 19th anniversary luncheon at the Courtyard Marriott in Waterbury. Behind Bennett is Jessie B. Ballenger, local chair of the National Congress of Black Women. Bennett thanked her aunt Dora Bennett, saying that if it wasn't for her she would not be the young lady she is today. Other award recipients were Clifford Alcantara, Shelia Aponte, Kristopher Mylin Brown, Dontay M. Ellis, Jocely Garcia, Aliana Outing, Pedro Rievera, Terrance Thompson II, and Alexus Templeton. Scholarship recipients were Antoine Gary II from Holy Cross, Ashley Randall from Waterbury Arts Magnet, and Aaron Michael Thomas Roscoe from Sacred Heart. <br />
