WATERBURY, CT 07/05/09- 070509BZ04- Terrell Moore dumps a 5-gallon bucket of concrete into a form as Herman Chapman trowels it out while pouring a new concrete driveway on Bishop Street in Waterbury Sunday afternoon. In the background, neighbor Ronald Barnes and homeowner Charles Johnson mix concrete in a child's swimming pool turned mixing bowl.
Johnson said the pool allowed them to mix more concrete to cover the large area of the driveway and that they had used 18 bags of Quikrete for the job so far. The project was teaching his kids "substance" (life skills and work ethic) while also maintaining his property, he said. "You don't want to finish paying for something and have a junk pile," he said.
