Torrington, CT-16 February 2012-021612CM08-  Torrington firefighter, Michael Easter follows a hose line out of the room during a training exercise in an abandoned house on Summer St. Thursday afternoon in Torrington.  Easter along with fellow firefighter Brian Mazzarella  were being taught Self Containment Breathing Apparatus training (or SCBA) from Torrington Fire Department instructors.  The pair were subjected to a fog machine that simulated a real life smoke situation. "It's a real life setting." said Larry Hepburn, a department training officer.  The new firefighters were educated on how to use their air packs, locating mannequins using various techniques and learning controlled breathing techniques.  Today they will be learning water supply, which includes fire hydrants, drafting water from ponds and getting to know and the city's water system and how it works added Capt. Joseph McElroy.
