WOLCOTT -- June 10, 2014 -- 09_NEW_061014MDP01 -- WATERBURY -- The Grand Professional Building at the corner of Grand and Leavenworth streets began undergoing a more than $200,000 facelift this week. The stately building -- which is actually four separate structures, parts of which are more than a century old -- has been owned for almost the past three decades by New England Realty. The owners have received a $100,000 forgivable loan from the Waterbury Development Corp. to repair the facade of the building. The building is home to several ground-level retail businesses, including Ribeiro Opticians, Mar-Vic Cleaners and Libero's Pizza. A new storefront is planned for its corner space, which had once been Jimmy's Charcoal Kitchen, but has been vacant for 12 years.
