Torrington, CT-120513MK03 Mike Sirois looks on as his daughter Gabriella selects a cookie just after the lights on The North End Community Tree were lit Thursday evening at the Torrington police department. Attendees of the event rushed inside to avoid the weather and enjoy pizza, hot chocolate and other treats. Glenn Royals, vice president of the North End Community Association said that just over fifty people braved the rain and fog to listen to carols while watching the lighting of the tree. Royals said that the group began in 1934 by businesses of the North end and over time have funded various events and purchased equipment for the town’s police and fire departments. This was the fourth year that the Frasier Fir tree, donated and planted by Mike Sirois of North West Landscaping, was decorated with lights. Michael Kabelka / Republican-American
