Waterbury, CT- 05, August 2010-080510CM01  Sgt. Gaston Ireland, gets a hug from his 8 year old daughter, Kayla, Thursday afternoon at the WOW Learning Center on Walnut Street in Waterbury.  Sgt. Ireland, part of the 186th BSB, Army National Guard unit out of Southington has just returned home from Afghanistan, for a two week furlough, then will go back overseas to finish his remaining two months.  Sgt. Ireland was met by family and friends who threw him the homecoming party.  Col. John Chiarella, head of the Waterbury Veterans Memorial Committee presented Ireland with a medal and certificate.  Sgt. Ireland said he hopes to be back before the Thanksgiving holiday.  The Seargent  has already served 18 years, with a tour in Desert Storm, and now in Afghanistan.  He was happy to be home, and is looking forward to returning in two months.  "I appreciate everything the community has done. It's really nice", said Ireland.  --Christopher Massa Republican-American
