STONINGTON, CT - 17 July 2012-071712EC08-- The view from the back of the fishing boat, where skates hang in lobster traps and are ready to be thrown back into the water. For four generations, the Maderia family out of Stonington has been commercial fishing off the coast. The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection announced last week that it has launched a study into why the state's lobster catch has dwindled from 3.7 million pounds in 1998 to just 142,000 pounds in 2011. The Maderias say this year has been one of their best in a dozen years. Erin Covey Republican American.
