WASHINGTON, CT -31 July 2004 - 073104TH11 - Despite being handicapped with a broken arm, James Freeland, 8 of Washington, hit some good balls during a game of Town Ball, the precursor to present day baseball, on the Washington Green Saturday afternoon. In Town Ball, the striker or batter is given 'hitable' pitches and runs as soon as the bat connects with the ball in any form. There are no fouls in Town Ball. Todd Hougas photo.
