Southbury, CT-071815MK01 Volunteer Arthur Hopkins installs a smoke detector as fellow volunteer Teresa Folgel and Southbury's deputy fire marshal Derrek Guertin look on in Roberta Hade's home at Heritage Village in Southbury Saturday morning. Deborah Danen, American Red Cross territory-5 project manager, said that four teams set out to install multiple new smoke detectors in ten condos and each detector had a battery that will last ten years before having to be replaced. Deputy fire marshal Guertin said that the department was on hand to give fire prevention tips and evacuation suggestions as part of the event. The devices were provided at no charge to the homeowners from a program that American Red Cross receives funds for. Michael Kabelka / Republican-American.
